No panorama actual da arte contemporânea, Franz West é um criador plástico que trabalha a partir de uma crítica da comunicação e de uma reformulação estética das relações entre o “espectador” e a “obra”. A sua produção, da qual foi já apresentada uma mostra antológica em Portugal (1997/1998), elege o corpo humano e o espaço habitável, como motivos para uma abordagem inédita da socialização de relações entre sujeitos, as quais encara como matérias-primas do discurso artístico. Franz West (Viena, 1947) é um artista de rara singularidade no panorama da arte actual. Expõe desde meados dos anos 70. The actual contemporary art spectrum shows Franz West as an artist, who engages with the critical analysis of the languages, as well as with the aesthetic rethinking of the relationship between the “spectator” and the “piece of art”. His production chooses the human body and the inhabitable space as its major motives. Through this approach, the artist achieves an exclusive interaction between the social relations of the subjects, which are seen as the main subject matters of his artistic discourse. Franz West (Vienna, 1947) already had an anthological exhibition in Portugal (1997/1998) and is seen as an artist of extreme singularity in the current contemporary art scene. He exhibits since the middle of the 1970s.
