Introdução: As diferentes investigações ao longo dos últimos anos consideram que o estilo de vinculação, o ambiente do sistema de prestação de cuidados e os estilos educativos parentais formam a dinâmica central que molda o percurso de desenvolvimento de um indivíduo desde a infância até à idade adulta, podendo ter efeitos contínuos e ser transmitidos entre gerações. Entender a qualidade da prestação de cuidados fornecida pelos primeiros cuidadores pode servir de modelo para melhor compreender o modo como os indivíduos pensam, se sentem e se comportam nos relacionamentos futuros. Objetivos: Investigar a transmissão intergeracional, entre mães e filhas, da vinculação, dos estilos educativos parentais e do sistema de prestação de cuidados. Pretende-se, ainda, observar o papel da vinculação e dos estilos educativos parentais na formação das representações das filhas sobre a prestação de cuidados ao longo de duas gerações. Metodologia: A amostra é constituída por 104 participantes divididas equitativamente entre grupo de mães (GM; n = 52) e grupo de filhas (GF; n = 52), com idades compreendidas entre os 45 e os 67 anos (M = 54,49; DP = 5,10) e os 18 e 29 anos (M = 23,56; DP = 2,73), respetivamente. Todas as participantes preencheram um questionário sociodemográfico e sobre a relação mãe-filha, o Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour (EMBU), a Escala Experiências em Relações Próximas (ECR) e a Escala de Representações Mentais de Prestação de Cuidados (ERMPC). Resultados: Verificaram-se associações entre a vinculação, os estilos educativos parentais e o sistema de prestação de cuidados entre o grupo de mães e o grupo de filhas. Verificou-se que, na globalidade, a vinculação e os estilos educativos parentais parecem não influenciar as representações acerca da prestação de cuidados ao longo das duas gerações. Discussão: O presente estudo fornece dados que suportam a premissa de que pode existir uma transmissão intergeracional dos vários construtos estudados, sendo importante considerar que as interações com os pais têm um efeito contínuo no funcionamento das relações e que, estes efeitos prevalecem ao longo da vida. No entanto, todos estes contrutos são inerentemente dependentes da qualidade da relação entre cuidadores e filhos, e também, susceptíveis de serem influenciados pelas próprias vulnerabilidades das crianças, dos pais e pelos fatores familiares e ambientais. / Introduction: The different investigations throughout the years consider that the attachment style, caregiving system environment and rearing parenting styles form the central dynamic that molds the course of development of an individual from infancy to adulthood, and it can have continuous effects and be transmitted between generations. Understanding the quality of caregiving provided by the first caregivers may be used as a model to better understand the way the individuals think, feel and behave in future relationships. Objective: Investigate the intergenerational transmission between mothers and daughters, of the attachment, rearing parenting styles and the caregiving system. It also intended to observe the role of the attachment and the parental rearing styles in the formation of the daughters representations about the caregiving throughout two generations. Methods: The sample consists in 104 participants split equally between a mother’s group (GM; n = 52) and a daughter’s group (GF; n = 52), aged between 45 and 67 years old (M = 54.49; SD = 5.10) and 18 and 29 (M = 23.56; SD = 2.73), respectively. All participants filled a sociodemographic questionnaire and a questionnaire about the mother-daughter relationship, the Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour (EMBU), the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECR) and the Mental Representation of Caregiving Scale (ERMPC). Results: Associations between attachment, the parental rearing styles and the caregiving system were observed between the mother’s group and the daughter’s group. It was observed that, in all, the attachment and the parental rearing styles don’t seem to influence the representations about the caregiving throughout the two generations. Discussion: This study provides data that supports the premise that there may exist an intergenerational transmission of the various studied constructs, being important to consider that the interactions with the parents have a continuous effect in the behaviour of the relationships and that, these effects remain throughout the life. However, all these constructs are inherently dependent of the relationship quality between caregivers and childrens, and also, susceptible to be influenced by the vulnerabilities of children, parents, and by the family and environmental factors.
