Faced with the growing and constant aggressions to the environment, the International Environment Law has a fundamental role in the fight for the protection and preservation of nature. However, when co-operation between Estates is no longer sufficient for the implementation of international environmental policies, Non Governmental Organizations emerge as legitimate and important actors, in order to influence the decision and law-making process of environmental protection rules. This paper will analyze the role and influence of non-governmental organizations in international treaties on the environment, especially those related to climate change. For this purpose, this essay discuss the need, the main characteristics and the alternative forms that NGOs may contribute in this process. It also examines what are the roles that the Governmental Organizations should play and the impact of their actions internationally. In addition, it analyzed the limitations and challenges of these representatives of civil society in order to achieve of a healthy environment for present and future generations. In this paper, it was used a combination of exploratory, explanatory and descriptive research methods. In conclusion, the research shows that, although NGOs are not main characters of international law and do not have a international legal representation, they can bring awareness to the problem, support society with scientific work and pressure States to provide effective measures to mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases, which are main responsible for climate change
