ESPIRITUALIDADE E CORAGEM: O sujeito da parresía e o sujeito da espiritualidade política em Michel Foucault

At a time when there has been a drastic increase in the search for “spiritual content” of different kinds, with their appropriate “prophets” who almost always offer a palatable, universal and non-committal recipe for meaning or consolation to deal with the crises that plague the planet and its individuals, this article explores the confluence between spirituality and courage in Michel Foucault’s thought, highlighting the relevance of these concepts in the ethical and political constitution of the subject.  As such, it analyzes the subjects of spirituality-courage, bringing together two central figures in Foucault’s thought: the parrhesia and political spirituality.  The article concludes that spirituality, in its individual and political dimensions, is a practice of courage that implies an ethical choice and a transformation of the subject.  This courage is essential for developing a “political spirituality”, capable of questioning the subject’s relationship with themself and reality, in the search for other subjects, ethics, and a different world.
