Resumo: In this work, we will research about the taste taking as reference the thought of philosopher David Hume, as presented in the essay entitled “Of the standard of taste”, which is found in the Moral, Political and Literary Essays. In order to have a better understanding of the subject, this article is structured in three moments. In the first moment we will focus on the thesis that beauty is not characteristic of objects but is found in the mind of those who contemplate it, that is, beauty is subjective. In the second moment, we will treat with judgments of taste, in view of a clarifying if, just as beauty, the taste is also subjective. Lastly, we will examine the central thesis of this investigation, namely, if it is possible to formulate a standard of taste in the evaluation of art. Hume defends the thesis that, even though taste is subjective, even so, it is possible to say that one work of art is better than another, because there are parameters that guarantee this aesthetic judgment. Keywords: Standard, Taste, Philosophy of Art, Aesthetics, Art.Não recebi financiamentoNesse trabalho investigaremos o gosto tomando como referência o pensamento do filósofo David Hume, tal como se apresenta no ensaio intitulado “Do Padrão de Gosto”, que se encontra nos Ensaios Morais, Políticos e Literários. Para que se tenha uma melhor compreensão do tema, o presente artigo se estrutura em três momentos. No primeiro momento concentrar-nos-emos na tese de que a beleza não é característica dos objetos, mas se encontra no espírito de quem a contempla, ou seja, o belo é subjetivo. No segundo momento trataremos dos juízos de gosto, com vistas a esclarecer se, tal como a beleza, o gosto também é subjetivo. Por fim, examinaremos a tese central dessa investigação, a saber, se é possível formular um padrão de gosto na avaliação da arte.
