Summary: Introduction: Neurodegenerative diseases are pathologies characterized by the irreversible destruction of certain neurons, which leads to the progressive and disabling loss of certain functions of the nervous system. In general, Alzheimer's disease involves impairment of patients' cognitive abilities, which tends to become more significant over the years. Objective: Quantitative and temporal analysis of the epidemiological characteristics of the general aspects of Alzheimer's disease in Brazil and its macroregions, from January 2014 to June 2024. Methodology: This is an epidemiological study carried out based on data from the health information department of the SUS (Single Health System). The variables analyzed include: hospitalizations, average length of stay per hospitalization, deaths, age group, sex, race/ethnicity, and type of care, as available in public health records. Result: The analysis yielded 16,211 cases of hospitalizations, with a prevalence in the Southeast region, representing 52.5%, which had the highest number of deaths and the highest average length of stay. Considering the age group, it was shown that the prevalence of dementia increases progressively with aging. Conclusion: The aging of the world's population has as a consequence an increase in the prevalence and incidence of chronic and neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, Alzheimer's disease is currently a public health concern, given that the Brazilian population tends to age.
