Summary: The incorporation of the dentist in the multidisciplinary team is fundamental for improving the quality of life of patients hospitalized in ICU beds, thus avoiding possible infections that may compromise the patient systemically. Good oral health of patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit is essential for a good prognosis, and the dentist specialized in hospital dentistry is responsible for this care of the bedridden patient, guiding his team on the correct protocol to be performed. The purpose of this study was to conduct a literature review on the importance of the dentist in the ICU, and its integration into the Material team and methods; Searches were conducted in bibliographic databases, such as Google Scholar, Scielo and Pubmed. Multidisciplinary. Twenty-four articles were selected that confirm the importance of the presence of the dentist in the hospital environment, thus providing the patient with a decrease in cases of infection, such as nosocomial pneumonia, pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation, among others. The dentist included in the multidisciplinary team provides the patient with a care in which the patient is seen as a whole and not in parts, reducing the time of hospitalization and risk of systemic complications through oral health care.

Introducción: La incorporación del odontólogo en el equipo multidisciplinario es fundamental para mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes hospitalizados en una cama de UCI, evitando así posibles infecciones que puedan comprometer sistémicamente al paciente. La buena salud bucal del paciente ingresado en la unidad de cuidados intensivos es fundamental para un buen pronóstico, y el odontólogo especialista en odontología hospitalaria es el responsable de esta atención al paciente encamado, asesorando a su equipo sobre el protocolo correcto a realizar. Objetivo El propósito de este estudio fue realizar una revisión de la literatura sobre la importancia de los odontólogos en la UCI y su integración en el equipo. Material y métodos; Las búsquedas se realizaron en bases de datos bibliográficas como Google Scholar, Scielo y Pubmed. multidisciplinario. Resultados y discusión: Se seleccionaron 23 artículos que confirman la importancia de la presencia del odontólogo en el ámbito hospitalario, brindando así al paciente una reducción en los casos de infección, como neumonía nosocomial, neumonía asociada a ventilación mecánica, entre otros. Conclusión: El odontólogo incluido en el equipo multidisciplinario brinda al paciente un servicio en el que se lo ve en su totalidad y no en partes, reduciendo el tiempo de hospitalización y el riesgo de complicaciones sistémicas a través de la atención de la salud bucal.A incorporação do odontólogo na equipe multidisciplinar é fundamental para a melhoria de qualidade de vida do paciente internado em leito de UTI, evitando assim possíveis infecções que podem comprometer o paciente sistemicamente. Uma boa saúde bucal do paciente internado na unidade de terapia intensiva é essencial para um bom prognostico, e o cirurgião-dentista especializado em odontologia hospitalar é o responsável por esse cuidado com o paciente acamado, orientando sua equipe sobre o protocolo correto a ser realizado. A finalidade do presente trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura quanto à importância do cirurgião-dentista na UTI, e a sua integração na equipe. Foram realizadas pesquisas em bases de dados bibliográficos, como o Google Acadêmico, Scielo e Pubmed. multidisciplinar. Foram selecionados 23 artigos que confirmam a importância da presença do cirurgião-dentista no ambiente hospitalar, assim podendo proporcionar ao paciente uma diminuição em casos de infecção, tais como pneumonia nosocomial, pneumonia associada à ventilação mecânica, dentre outras. O cirurgião-dentista incluído na equipe multidisciplinar propicia ao paciente um atendimento em que o mesmo é visto como um todo e não em partes, diminuindo o tempo de internação e risco de complicações sistêmicas através dos cuidados com a saúde bucal.
