Synoptic patterns associated with the occurrence of fire foci in the Ecological Station Taim and Campos Neutrais - Brazil

Summary: | Abstract: Weather and climate conditions directly influence the occurrence and dynamics of forest fires. And when they occur in environmental preservation regions, they have impacts on biodiversity loss, climate change and water security. This study identified the synotic patterns favorable to the occurrence of hotspot in the Ecological Station Region of the Taim and Campos Neutrais, both located in the extreme south of Brazil. In the study region, humidity deficits are more important than high temperatures, differing from what is described in the literature. Three synoptic patterns were identified: the first presenting negative anomalies of temperature and humidity, established after the passage of a cold front, which has as main contribution to generate a postfrontal stability, associated with the displacement of a high pressure system. The second and third pattern (64% of wildfire) correspond to the most intense and long-lasting events, which occur in the presence of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone and Humidity Convergence Zone, respectively, and act on the northwest-southeast region of Brazil. These systems favor the slow displacement of a high pressure system over the study region, which contributes to the intensification of a stable environment, favoring moisture deficit and positive temperature anomalies in the study region. The results of this study provide an understanding of how the atmosphere influences the occurrence of wildfire in the study region, and will help in planning the minimization of the impact they can cause in an environmental preservation region |

Cuando se producen en regiones de preservación ambiental, los incendios favorecen la pérdida de biodiversidad, repercuten en el cambio climático y en la seguridad del agua. Este estudio identificó patrones sinópticos favorables a la ocurrencia de incendios en la Estación Ecológica Neutral de Taim y Campos, ubicada en el extremo sur de Brasil. Para la ocurrencia de incendios en la región de estudio, los déficits de humedad son más importantes que las altas temperaturas, lo que difiere de lo descrito en la literatura. Se identificaron tres patrones sinópticos: el primero muestra anomalías negativas de temperatura y humedad, establecidas tras el paso de un frente frío que tiene como principal contribución generar estabilidad postfrontal, asociada al desplazamiento de un sistema de altas presiones. El segundo y tercer patrón (64%) corresponden a eventos intensos y de larga duración, que ocurren en presencia de la Zona de Convergencia del Atlántico Sur y de la Zona de Convergencia Húmeda, que actúan en la región noroeste-sudeste de Brasil. Estos sistemas favorecen el lento desplazamiento de un sistema de altas presiones sobre la región de estudio, contribuyendo a un ambiente estable, favoreciendo el déficit de humedad y las anomalías positivas de temperatura en la región de estudio. Los resultados permiten comprender cómo influye la atmósfera en la ocurrencia de incendios en la región de estudio, ayudando a planificar la minimización del impacto que pueden causar en una región de preservación ambiental.A atmosfera influencia diretamente a ocorrência e a dinâmica das queimadas e incêndios florestais. Este estudo identificou os padrões sinóticos favoráveis à ocorrência de fogo na Estação Ecológica do Taim e Campos Neutrais, ambos localizados no extremo sul do Brasil. Para a ocorrência de fogo na região de estudo, os déficits de umidade são mais importantes do que as altas temperaturas, diferindo do que é descrito na literatura. Três padrões sinóticos foram identificados: o primeiro apresentando anomalias negativas de temperatura e umidade, estabelecidas após a passagem de uma frente fria que tem como principal contribuição a de gerar uma estabilidade pós-frontal, associada ao deslocamento de um sistema de alta pressão. O segundo e terceiro padrões (64%) correspondem aos eventos mais intensos e duradouros, que ocorrem na presença da Zona de Convergência do Atlântico Sul e da Zona de Convergência de Umidade, e atuam na região noroeste-sudeste do Brasil. Esses sistemas favorecem o deslocamento lento de um sistema de alta pressão sobre a região de estudo, o que contribui para a intensificação de um ambiente estável, favorecendo o déficit de umidade e anomalias positivas de temperatura na região de estudo.
