Resumo em Inglês: The aim of this dissertation is to narrate the history of the educational practices at Colégio Marista Santa Maria – CMSM – of the Institute of Little Brothers of Mary, in Curitiba between 1969 and 1976; in order to analyse how the Marist Educational Project of cultivating “good christians and virtuous citizens” related with the reform of the educational system carried out during this time by the Military regime which was established in Brazil in 1964. The study of CMSM contributes to a broader understanding of the uniqueness of school space and its particularity. Even though they have the same foundation each school community has a unique way of experiencing its educational and pedagogical projects. For this study both bibliographical research and oral history techniques were used, thus revealing the uniqueness of the marist educational practices and showing how the reform of the Brazilian educational system was carried out in the Marian school community. It was possible to notice an overlapping relationship between the official guidelines and the Marian educational project. CMSM followed the official guidelines, but they incorporated new teaching concepts and theological reflections, thus redesigning their educational practices which in the end helped to update their project of cultivating “good christians and virtuous citizens”.
