Resumo: | This work is an investigation into the artisanal nature of the work of luthiers, who create solid-body electric musical instruments, and the meanings behind the integration of digital manufacturing technologies in it. After the introduction, concepts related to work as a human activity are presented: its ontology, its transformations in the industrial system, and its artisanal nature in a post-industrial context. Next, the development of the electric guitar is presented, from the social demands that led to its creation to the perspectives that consolidated in the guitar culture through the instrument's history. In a third section, the principles of digital manufacturing, its origins, and its potentials and implications for musical instruments construction are presented. Finally, the ideas presented in the three first chapters are associated to propose a contemporary perspective on the work of luthiers and its artisanal nature. |
