Resumo: |
The description of the compensation naturally present in Class III malocclusions, restricted to the inclination of incisors, contradicts clinical evidence of the extent of this process and justifies further research. This work aims to expand its assessment to all elements of the upper and lower dental arches. The sample consisted of plaster casts of the dental arches of 46 white individuals of both sexes (25 men, 21 women) with a mean age of 21 years and 1 month, with Class III malocclusion, standard orthodontic treatment indication, permanent dentition and no dental losses. They were scanned and the measuring the slope of the dental crowns was made through Abzil BI program. The results were compared to normal values for white Brazilians with normal occlusion, available in the literature and analyzed statistically. After the statistical analysis, the results were discussed and the possible conclusions reached were described. There was extensive variation in slope data of all teeth. The distribution histogram of the values for upper incisors was concentrated in the area that indicates no compensation and, on the contrary, to lower incisors in the area indicating compensation. By comparison, the upper posterior teeth had lower palatal inclination than normal and lower incisors and second molars, the greater lingual inclination. The correlations between the movements were significant for upper and lower central incisors and lateral, canines and other lower posterior teeth and canines and first premolars. Natural slope compensation for the bad standard III of occlusions with compensatory treatment indication was detected in a significant way to the upper posterior teeth, including canines, with reduced palatal inclination. The lower arch for incisors with increased lingual inclination, very frequent and significant |
