Resumo: |
The purpose of this study was to assess the changes of quality of life in patients undergoing bimaxillary or monomaxillary osteotomy for the correction of skeletal malformations among patients at 3 months and 6 months after orthognatic surgery. For this study, we looked at 20 patients with malocclusion and indication for surgical treatment who had received orthodontic preparation previously. The patients were evaluated during three times: preoperative; postoperative period, 3 and 6 months after surgical intervention. Assessment consisted of the application of the Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) validated for the Brazilian population. The domains evaluated by the SF- 36 four were significant statistically: functional capacity; physical aspect; vitality; emotional aspect. This study showed that improvement in Quality of life (QoL) following orthognathic surgery is possible. Significant changes in functional capacity, physical aspects, vitality and emotional aspects occurred after a minimum of three postoperative months. |
