Resumo: Generally orthodontic treatment of adult patients has several limitations, among the most frequent we mention the loss of supporting bone accentuated, and the difficulty of obtaining a satisfactory anchorage losses due to various dental elements. The aim of this study was to evaluate the orthodontic intrusion of central incisors in patients with periodontal involvement. For the study 20 patients were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The patients first underwent periodontal scaling and root planning therapy and patients who reestablished periodontal health were referred for orthodontic treatment. Clinical parameters of plaque index (PI), marginal bleeding index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), gingival recession (GR), bleeding on probing (BOP) and size of the clinical crown (SCC) were measured before (baseline), 30, 90, 180, 270 and 360 days after the beginning of orthodontic intrusion treatment. During orthodontic treatment (phase incisor intrusion) patients were monitored monthly by trained and calibrated researcher who performed the periodontal monitoring. Data were statistically analyzed by software BioEstat 5.0. The level of significance was 5%. It was concluded that the movement of orthodontic intrusion had influence in the improvement of periodontal conditions after scaling and root planing, since the sites remain without periodontal disease activity.
