Resumo: Two studies conducted to evaluate the silages of elephant grass genotypes in sheep feeding. In the first experiment eight sheep with permanent rumen fistula simultaneously divided into two 4 x 4 latin squares were used. The treatments consisted of the silages of elephant grass genotypes (Mott, Taiwan A- 146 2.37, IRI 381 and Elephant-B), which were ensiled after 60 days of regrowth. The animals had low dry matter intake of silage evaluated, however the consumption of nutrients not influenced by the experimental diets, except ether extract intake. The digestibility of dry matter (65,86 %), organic matter (73.02 %), crude protein (74.35 %), ether extract (75.99 %), neutral detergent fiber (63.34 %), carbohydrates total (67.54 %), non-fiber carbohydrate (76.73 %) and total digestible nutrients (64.13 %) were not influenced by the use of silages of elephant grass genotypes and feeding behavior and nitrogen balance. Silages made with Mott genotypes, Taiwan A- 146 2.37, IRI 381 and Elephant-B after 60 days of growth without the use of additives can be fed to sheep, however, to print low consumption cannot write as single ingredient feed. The second experiment aimed to evaluate the leg tissue composition and meat quality of sheep fed diets with roughage food silages Pennisetum sp. (IRI-381, Elephant-B and Mott) made without additives or practice of wilting. Twenty-four sheep without defined breed, with eight months of age with an average initial body weight of 20.29 ± 2.66kg, which distributed in a randomized block design with three treatments and eight replicates. The experimental diets formulated to meet the demands of animals and allow 20 kg average weight gain of 150 g/day, keeping focused 50:50 roughage. There was no significant difference in the dry matter intake (898.70 g/day) and total digestible nutrients (690.20 g/day) among diets. The animals subjected to different diets did not differ (P<0.05) for body weight at slaughter (24.8 kg) weight of the entire leg (1532.47g), muscle (1055.36g), bones (385.93g), weight of subcutaneous fat (43.04g), intermuscular (19.68g) and total (64.14g), other tissues (27.02 g) and the muscle: bone (2.73), muscle: fat (17.18) and muscularity of the leg (0.33). No difference in the chemical composition and qualitative aspects of meat from animals fed with the diets studied observed. Silages made with the IRI-381, Elephant-B and Mott genotypes, using no additive or premix may select withered sheep diets, they do not alter the tissue composition of the leg of the animal as well as the physicochemical parameters and chemical composition of meat.
