Resumo: This survey was developed to study the management practices in the sugarcane plants in Pernambuco, in order to verify the extent to which its administration was modernized, seeking to meet the precepts governing the concept of socio-environmental corporate responsibility(SECR). The theoretical framework developed addresses topics related to the concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR), environmental management, strategy and sustainability. To observe the phenomenon, we adopted the method of multiple case study, having been visited 08 plants of a total of 13 in operation. Data collection was conducted through semi-directive interviews with open questions to be answered by the managers of plants, heads of representative professional agencies and those responsible for oversight of environmental issues. Content analysis techniques were used for treating the qualitative data and the factor analysis for the treatment of quantitative data collected through a questionnaire using the Likert interval. The conclusions reached allow to deduce that environmental corporate responsibility (ECR) exists in the management practice of the plants in the industry, some to exercise it more intensely than others, but not yet as a fully consolidated management practice, deliberately deployed with the aim of gaining competitive advantage, as a result of a management that is under construction and advancing step-by-step. The fact that the related SECR variables are being observed by managers of companies can be explained in two strands of thought: on the one hand, as a result of modern management practiced in plants depending on the administrative renewal; on the other, to cope with the need to meet the requirements of labor laws and environmental regulations. As a contribution to the research sector, the possible access of managers of plants to specific aspects of its management are mentioned, enabling the improvement through knowledge of new practices, influencing other research to contribute to the administration in the sugarcane industry.
