Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is an infectious parasitic disease of chronic and zoonotic nature with worldwide distribution. In Brazil, it is caused by the protozoan Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum, in which the transmission occurs during the hematophagy on phlebotomi of the Lutzomyia longipalpis species. Affected animals present as asymptomatic or showing skin, eye, kidney, hepatic, haematological and biochemical changes. The treatment will be established according to clinic and laboratory findings. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the electrophoretic profile of dogs naturally infected by leishmania, subjected to three treatment protocols. A number of 18 dogs with positive parasitic dignosis for CVL were used, divided in three groups. The animals of group 1 were treated with allopurinol and domperidone. In group 2, the drugs used were miltefosine and allopurinol and in group 3, marbofloxacin and allopurinol were used. The animals were evaluated before treatment (at moment zero – M0), 30, 60 and 90 days after treatment (M30, M60, M90) by electrophoretic profiles of serum proteins. The main findings were hypoproteinemia, hyperproteinemia, hypergammaglobulinemia and reduction of the albumin/globulin ratio. Those changes varied according to the group and duration of treatment, and the rates eventually attained normality. It is concluded that the use of the drugs marbofloxacin associated with allopurinol favoured the normalization of serum parameters. |
