Resumo: Aiming at studying the structure of population and demography of Murciano-Granadina goat breed, 24,444 data on pedigree, from Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Caprino de Raza Murciano-Granadina – CAPRIGRAN, were analyzed. In order to set population structure the following population data were analyzed: complete generations; complete generation equivalent; effective number of founders (fe); effective number of ancestors (fa); inbreed coefficient (F-statistics) and average relatedness coefficient (AR). The conclusion was that the levels of genetic variability in the studied population of Murciano-Granadina goat breed were in satisfactory level, allowing its utilization in programs of genetic improvement and conservation of genetic resources. As for demographic census, quantitative data were studied regarding: number of males and females; medium generation intervals (GI); effective number (Ne). The conclusion was that low depth of pedigrees limits getting more precise parameters. Smaller herds presented sex rate under recommended and the medium GI observed (2.77 years) demonstrates that population is under intense improvement work that can compromise genetic variability in the future.
