Resumo: The herpesvirus type 1 (HVE-1) and the arteritis viral equine’s virus (VAVE), have high capacity of dissemination, causing reproductive, neurological and respiratory disorders, making economical losses on horse’s breeding. Because this, our objective was to determine the occurrence and to measure the risk factors of the infections caused by Equine Herpesvirus (HVE) and VAVE, on horses no vaccinated from the mesoregion east and west of Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil. Was collected 809 samples of AVE on 90 farms, and 778 samples of HVE, on 88 farms, on the months of july of 2018 and february of 2019, situated on 16 cities of this state. The sorological diagnostic of the both diseases was done for sorum-neutralization technique, on micro-pane. The comparative and absolute frequencies was measured by descriptive statistics analyzes, and the risk factors by “univariada” analyzes of the variables interest, by Pearson chi-square test, (P<0,05). No sample was positive for stroke [0% (0/809)]; while a prevalence of 32% (249/778) for LVH was found, with 80.6% (71/88) of the properties having at least one positive animal, being present in all municipalities in the study. One kind of investigative quiz was done on all farms for identification of risks factors of infections, and after the statistics analyzes was identified how risk factors: work animals (OR:3,63; IC 95%: 1,91–6,91), extensive breeding system (OR: 1,79; IC 95%: 1,10–2,91), farms that don’t do sanitizes (OR: 2,32; IC 95%: 1,27-4,33), and don’t sterilizes the corral (OR: 1,83; IC 95%: 1,15–2,91). Therefore, the results obtained don’t demonstrated the VAVE virus on horses, but its indicate that HVE there is largely diffused on all state, and is connected with bad breeding conditions of the animals on farms.
