In agriculture, productivity is related to the use of pesticides and in the agricultural sector, is the main responsible for the growth of the current Brazilian PIB. Atrazine is the second most commonly used pesticide in the country and can have an impact on human health, flora and fauna of affected ecosystems. The present study evaluated the ability of biofuels produced at different pyrolysis temperatures to adsorb the herbicide atrazine. For this, the biocarbons come from rice hulls produced at two pyrolysis temperatures (400ºC and 700ºC), were named BC400 and BC700, characterized by their physicochemical goodness and atrazine sorption behavior to be investigated. The kinetic study suggested that the sorption can be well described by the kinetic model of pseudo-second order, and the equilibrium time found was 10 days. A Scanning Electron Microscopy (VEM) was performed that morphologically characterized the surface of the biochars as a specific surface area (ASEBET). The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models are used to describe the atrazine adsorption process. The present study pointed out that the non BC700 adsorption capacity was higher than the BC400, this result is related to the physical and chemical characteristics of the biochars. Thus, rice bark biochars have great potential for environmental implications and can be used to alleviate the damage caused by atrazine in agriculture. |
