This dissertation aims to investigate the diffusion of Presbyterianism in the West of São Paulo, with the central focus being the city of Iepê (SP) and the participation of independent Presbyterians in its foundation. For this investigation, a general approach is made to attempts to insert Protestantism in Brazil, noting its conflicts with Catholicism, its progress and its internal dilemmas, until its consolidation. In a specific way, the approach to independent Presbyterianism is privileged, since it is the denomination that prevails in the origins of the first protestors of Iepê. These, in turn, are presented in the text as protagonists in the search for solutions to the religious conflicts between Catholics and Protestants, which ultimately led to the creation of the city of Iepê, the "land of freedom".
