Resumo: This thesis discusses the transformation whose printed newspapers have been subjected to since the beginning of the twentieth century to the 1960s and it examines the influence of the society of the spectacle in the newspapers. In addition, it describes the scenario of printed newspapers of the early twenty-first century and their different strategies in the face of new technologies, especially the Internet. It also presents the stratagems that media organizations have used to try to overcome the difficulties arisen from the decrease in the number of readers and from the need for a change in its communication approach. The study quantifies and analyzes the main themes present on some covers of printed newspapers, seeking to detail the discursive resources, as well as the persuasive approaches, herein present. Finally, it presents a qualitative analysis of some newspaper covers of Super Notícia, one of the most popular newspapers in Brazil.
