Resumo: This thesis explores the domestic Interior Design produced during the twentieth century focusing in gender issues. To accomplish its proposal, this research has been separated into parts I and II: Gender & Artifacts and Gender & Space. While understanding that this is a large field of study, and concurrently aiming to contemplate several aspects related to domestic interiors under gender studies perspective, it has been established to range those two similar subjects in order to make this thesis more didactic. Therefore, in “Gender & Artifact”, objects and artifacts which assemble home decoration, as well as its relations towards production, consumption and gender have been studied; and finally, in the second part, Gender & Space, home spatial arrangement and possible gender interpretations have been considered – this is why we analyzed model houses from Brazilian architecture in the last century, aiming to provide comparisons with their contemporary foreign works.
