The aging of the population creates a concern for public policy, as a design-care programs and health education regarding chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus is needed. This study aimed to assess the association between physical activity levels, body fat indicators with the knowledge and attitudes of older people with type 2 diabetes mellitus users of the public health system. We conducted a cross sectional in the population based study with 204 elderly people with type 2 diabetes who were registered on 4 units of family health that promoted prevention programs for diabetes Passo Fundo state of Rio Grande do Sul. Data analysis was applied to the distribution of absolute and relative frequencies and the chi-square test for proportions. Posteriomente was carried out crude and adjusted analysis by logistic regression, with a 95% confidence interval at a significance level of p≤0.050. Results are expressed in two scientific publications. The scientific production I had order to verify the association between physical activity, sociodemographic conditions, health, knowledge and attitudes of older people with diabetes mellitus type 2 Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul. The main findings of this research point out how significant variables to be active physically being older than 70 years with (OR= 0.40; 95%CI: 0.22-0.90), older people with good knowledge of diabetes (OR= 12.7; 95%CI: 6.8-30.10) and have positive attitude towards the self-care of diabetes (OR= 10.1; 95%CI: 6.34-20.1). Therefore, physical activity was positively associated with age greater than or equal to 70 years with a good knowledge of DM and the positive attitude of the DM self-care. The II scientific production aimed to investigate the association between knowledge and attitude with anthropometric indicators of adiposity, sociodemographic and health in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul. The results of this study identified that the proper knowledge is associated with greater than or equal age 70 years (OR= 0.44; 95%CI: 0.18-1.08), have positive attitude for the treatment of diabetes (OR= 10.4 95%CI: 4.20-18.70) and being physically active (OR= 12.7; 95%CI: 6.8-30.10). In association with the positive attitude remained significantly associated with age greater than or equal 70 years (OR= 0.35; 95%CI: 0.15-0.78), who has a good knowledge of diabetes (OR= 8.9, 95%CI: 4.30-18.9) and being physically active (OR= 10.1; 95%CI: 6.34-20.1). Therefore, the proper knowledge and a positive attitude are associated with age greater than or equal to 70 years and be physically active and should be interpreted with caution as the cause and effect in this relationship |
