Borges de Medeiros in the so-called Historical Republicans, and Getúlio Vargas in the 1907 Generation. While, Borges de Medeiros gradually loses his power in the politics of Rio Grande do Sul, Getúlio Vargas is inicially highlighted on the position of Federal Deputy and straight after taking on the post of finances minister, always developing a work in favor of the State s interests, but at the same time not allowing his actions to define him as conciliatory politician. His attitude caused very good impression on the State s politics, mainly to the opposition, whom he used to have a moderate position. In 1927, during the elections for State s President, Borges de Medeiros was unable to compete by the Pedras Altas pact. At the same time, due to his political action, Getúlio Vargas became confident to the post, and was indicated, without any sanction.
