Resumo: |
The population growth and people’s migration into metropolitan areas has led to an increase in municipal solid waste (MSW) and its consequent inadequate management. The great challenge for city managers worldwide consists in a search for sustainable solutions that minimize environmental, social and economical impacts in MSW management. In Brazil the MSW management is deficient, because their management is very complex and involve a set of actions that should be planned to attend the National Solid Waste Policy. For that matter the problematic is inserted in a search of evaluation models of the life cycle in MSW management. This work justify itself by the need of evaluate sustainability in a wide and integrated way in the MSW management decision making in municipalities up to 250 thousand inhabitants. Its aim is to develop a support to decision making support method in MSW management throughout the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA). The methodology consists in the creation of alternative MSW management scenarios, evaluating environmental sustainability throughout the Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), economical sustainability throughout the Economic Life Cycle Assessment (LCC) and social sustainability throughout the Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA). The analysis were integrated through the LCSA being performed a three-dimensional review and analysis of the indicators throughout a multi-criteria analysis. The model is going to help in the decision making support process in sustainable MSW management in Brazilian municipalities. |
