Resumo: Due to the human aging the populations have reached age increasingly higher e, consequently, this evidence the functional disability and dependence of the elderly to the Activities of Daily Life - ADL and Instrumental Activities of Daily Life - IADL affecting their quality of life. The present study aimed to evaluate the quality of life in elderly with 75 years old and over in relation to the level of dependency to the achievement of ADL and IADL. The specific objectives we seek to know the conditions of functionality of the studied population and evaluate the influence of dependency on the quality of life of elderly in relation the ADL and IADL. The methodology was through population, descriptive, transversal and analytical study. The instruments used in data collection were: Mini Mental State Examination, Katz Scale, Lawton Scale, PFEFFER Questionnaire (QPAF), WOQOL OLD Questionnaire of perception of quality of life, version in Portuguese and a semi structured questionnaire of sociodemographic information. Population consisted of 159 elderly served in a Basic Health Unit. For the statistical treatment and obtaining the results, we used the descriptive statistics through the analysis the mean, T -test and standard deviation, and also ANOVA to analysis of variance, with a significance level of p = 0.05. Through statistical analysis proved that the dependency affects significantly the quality of life of dependent elderly for ADL, (M = 19.3), evaluated by Katz Scale. IADL were evaluated by Lawton Scale and the results found show an increase in quality of life of the elderly, but not high level, indicating an average of quality of life for (M = 18.6) for the dependent, (M = 20.7) to partial dependent (M = 22.3) for the independent elderly. Concludes that the condition of dependency for ADL and IADL, affects significantly the quality of life of elderly dependent. Therefore, we can say that is one of the factors that interfere withquality of life of individuals agend 75 years and more. Get old in contemporary culture must give way to contemplate the people who are aging demands so that they have opportunities for development and participation in family and social life. Public policies directed at the elderly should take actions oriented to the preservation of functional capacity in long-lived life.
