This study starts from the need to contribute to broaden the understanding and application of the norms established by Law 9795 of April 27, 1999, which provides for Environmental Education (EE) and institutes the National Environmental Education Policy (PNEA). The law also determines that all teachers must receive additional training, therefore, the study aims to collaborate with teachers from the two basic education schools in the city of São Domingos do Sul, RS, with regard to the fulfillment of the purposes established by this Law. , providing subsidies for these teachers to understand the importance of inserting and approaching the EE theme at all levels of education. For this, it was considered, together with the teachers, the development of activities that will discuss and renew their teaching practices and, thus, a continuing education course was defined as a tool. Therefore, the guiding question of this study was formulated: to what extent can a continuing education course in EE support basic education teachers in the inclusion of EE topics in the classroom of all disciplines? As a result of this question, the main objective was to plan, implement and apply a continuing education course in EE to this group of teachers. The proposed continuing education course was divided into three stages. The first stage aimed to find out how EE is inserted in basic education in this municipality and how teachers work with the contents related to this theme. This step was developed by applying a questionnaire to teachers from both schools and the subsequent analysis of the responses obtained. The results of this stage provided an opportunity to know the reality of teachers and schools regarding EE. Based on these results, the second stage of the study was developed, which aimed to prepare a booklet aimed at providing support material and giving subsidies to teachers to address EE themes in the classroom. In the third stage, the continuing education course in EE was planned and implemented, using the booklet as the main teaching material. During the course, activities were developed that aimed to discuss topics related to EE, for this, articles related to EE were chosen with proposals for works already published, so that teachers could see how the topic can be approached in different ways. At the end of this stage, at the last meeting of the course, both the booklet and the course were evaluated. To this end, individual interviews were carried out with the teachers. The results obtained from the interviews show a good acceptance by the professors of the course and the strategies used, in addition, they indicate that even though the related themes and EE are always being addressed, there are still many doubts, on the part of the professors, in the way how to use them in the classroom. About the booklet, the participants emphasize that it is complete, presenting both theory and links to activities, which can be used or adapted by them. Finally, the results of the study reveal the need for continuing education as a tool capable of providing new knowledge about new perspectives so that they can provide students with more meaningful learning. In summary, the study allowed the development of a booklet that took as guidance the notes of basic education teachers in the municipality of São Domingos do Sul, who took into account the reality of this municipality regarding EE.
