Resumo: Cross-sectional study with simple random sampling was conducted in elderly patients admitted to a general hospital of the city of Passo Fundo,RS, with the aim of checking the levels of vitamin D on those patients, verifying the possible associations among the levels of vitamin D and parathyroid hormone, calcium, creatinine, albumin, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase and magnesium levels. Levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D of 124 elderly were measured checking the possible associations between vitamin D levels and demographic, socioeconomic and clinical information, such as age, gender, solar exposure, rich food intake in fish, deambulation quality, vitamin D supplementation use and number of medications. Laboratory tests were collected by hospital laboratory personnel according to routine nursing services. Elderly patients admitted from August to November 2014 (winter and spring in the southern hemisphere) were evaluated. This dissertation is structured in two scientific productions, and the first brings the assessment of vitamin D levels in hospitalized elderly and sociodemographic and behavioral associations. The second scientific production shows the association of vitamin D levels in hospitalized elderly and laboratory tests. The data presented here demonstrate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in this population, serving as a reminder to health professionals working in hospitals about the need for actions to improve the levels of this vitamin, such as vitamin supplementation and sun exposure
