Resumo: |
The human aging process in Brazil and in the world is a growing and complex process which will demand profound social, political, economic, cultural and educational changes. In Brazil, the picture of dependence and frailty of the aged people grows every year, driven by a string of factors which affect their physical and mental integrity, resulting in the admission of many to long-stay homes. The goal of this work was to evaluate the educational interventions with physiotherapy students of the University of Passo Fundo and to guide them towards an integrating and problem-solving shaping directed to the social and political conditions of the admitted elderly people. Therefore, one has sought a dialogical and interacting approach between the educator and the educatee to overcome the practices of fragmented and mechanistic physiotherapeutic service. The methodological development was built on the groundwork of the studies of texts and workshops following from reflection, interaction of experiences, improvement of knowledge about nursing homes, and chiefly from the role of the social nets and from the awareness of the professional s citizenship as a transformer of the reality where he/she operates. By means of the application of a questionnaire, it was possible to verify the conception change of the academic students regarding: the existence and importance of nursing homes, the causes of admittance of the elderly, public policies and the operation profile in their nursing practice. One concludes that the physiotherapy students, mediated by the proposed educational interventions, showed more understanding and broadened their role of a social and historic subject, thus becoming able to operate in a global and humanizing way regarding the admitted elderly |
