This research has the purpose to identify, reconstruct and record the memories of six elderly painfilhenses, relating their life stories with their memories of reading in the sociocultural construction of the city of Paim Filho, Rio Grande do Sul. To achieve the objectives, the work, in its methodological course, follows a qualitative descriptive approach based on oral history, with an open interview. The data obtained are analyzed in light of the theory of cultural history and a study of memory, considered a key element of the work. Therefore, it seeks to support the theories of Jacques Le Goff, Henri Bergson, Maurice Halbwach and Ecléia Bosi, among other thinkers that, in a general sense, have in common the idea that memory is social, collective and associated to the support group, even though it has changes in its reorganization, when the transmission is individualized. Thus, by understanding the memories of older, you can draw a profile of those readers, noting their various modes of interaction with the reading in different periods of their lives. Furthermore, the study identifies traces of sociocultural life of the city, as the respondents turn to their memories of school, habits and family and social customs and about the ways of life in the city of Paim Filho.
