Resumo: | As a witness of an era Nina Rodrigues experienced the abolition slavery, and the consequent transition to the wage labor, viewed many repatriated slaves, observed the proclamation of the republic, as well as the northeast migration bacause of the 19th century climate changes. His work were in a context of transformation that would mark all the last two decades of the 19th century of the brasilian society, and would promote the inteligentsia to think this new reality and the transition of an old Brasil to a new modern one. The paradigms that guided this intelligentisia were evolutionism, social darwnism, positivism, that structured the people as a variety of distinct races.
