Resumo: | The central objective of this study was to undertake a qualitative evaluation of the Institutional Scholarship Program in Pre-service teacher (Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência - PIBID) of the chemical teacher education course at Chemical Institute, State University of São Paulo, Campus of Araraquara. The main intention was to investigate the worth and impact of the Institutional Scholarship Program in Pre-service teacher, pointed out as a strategic political action in teacher education and for worthy of educational professionals. This program came out at the educational political scene in 2007 with the Federal Education Development Plan, which is at the present time coordinate and evaluated by the Coordination of the Perfection of Higher Level Personnel (CAPES). Due the absence of data from qualitative evaluations the option was to undertake a Responsive Evaluation using the Robert Stake model in order to investigate an analysis the integrity of the formative process of the program involving theirs antecedents, transactions and outcomes. The qualitative research involved observations of PIBID groups' meetings, questionnaire applied to all scholarship students of the program and interviews with students, coordinators and supervising teachers. Analysis of the data indicated: the potential of PIBID in promoting the relationship public school and university; a more contextual teacher education, providing contact with real school problems, opportunities for group discussions and reflection along and over the school and class actions; the importance of the program in continuing education; the superseding of old paradigms and traditions of school teachers in supervising students from pre service programs; the concern of scholarship students for researching in chemical education.
