Resumo: | The aim of this study was to evaluate sphenoid sinus anatomy in relation to the surround anatomical structures. Magnetic ressonance imagin (MRI) from normal adult patients were used to the mensurements of the distance from nasal columela to the sphenoid sinus and pituitary, for mesurements of the postero-anterior diameter and heigh of the pituitary, of the widith and heigh of the optical chiasma, and of the intercarotideal distances. Studies of the sphenoid sinus morphology were also performed. Men showed elongated distances between nasal columela to the sphenoid sinus and pituitary. They also presented wider sphenoid sinus with advanced age (after 40 years-old). The sphenoid sinus morphology of the selar type was often observed. Postero-anterior diameter and heigh of the pituitary, widith and heigh of the optical chiasma, and the intercarotideal distances showed no statistical differences for different ages and sex. The present data are not described on the brazilian references, and are scanty on the international data basis |
