This research aimed to identify the socio-economic profile and the school trajectory of the Biological Sciences and Mathematics students at UNESP University in São José do Rio Preto. For the construction of the methodological procedures, it were used studies that discussed the teachers initial formation in Brazil as well as investigations about the reality of the undergraduate courses in other institutions of higher education: Almeida Neto (2007), Braga (1997), Da Ros (2001), Mazzetto (2002) e Melo (2007). As a result of our preliminary investigation, in order to construct indicators that could depict the profile of these freshmen, in these undergraduate courses that could interfere in their school trajectory and the conclusion rates and/or course evasion, we reached the following variables: : the clipping of pupils by gender; b) age when their entrance; (c) race/etny; d) type of basic education school the students attended – whether public or private; e) composition of family income; f) parental education degree; g) marital status of freshmen; h) shift where he/she attended high school; i)kind of high school attended; j) year of conclusion of secondary education, before entrance into the University; k) percentage of freshmen who attended pre university course. Part of the literature studied points that these are the variables that affect the conditions of permanence, evasion or conclusion of the undergraduate program at the expected time, besides being able to indicate the high or the low social prestige of the undergraduate courses. Our partial results indicated that, in the context of courses reviewed here, both the socio-economic profile of the students of Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, and the indicators of school career, in more favorable conditions, suggesting that better socioeconomic conditions, bring differentiated educational opportunities, which could be evidenced... |
