Resumo: The correlation of irregularities on the surfaces of metal workpieces can be carried out through the machining by abrasion, in which is necessary, both the cooling of the machined surface, and the lubrification in contact of the tool (grinding wheel) with the workpiece, obtaining a better final quality of the product. Thereby, we must seek methods that, when compared to the machining processes that use the conventional system of lubrification-cooling (abundant fluid), show better results in terms of quality of the workpieces, performing the main existing functions of cooling, lubrification and cleaning of the chips of the cutting zone. One of the methods is the Minimum Quantity Lubrificant (MQL), which users low oil flow to high pressure, reducing then the final waste of the process. There is also another method consisting in adding water to the MQL system, further decreasing the volume of oil in the cutting fluid. Thus, this work presents as an alternative to the conventional method of lubrification-cooling, the MQL technique, in its pure conditions and with water addition. To which, through the expermentally obtained results in the external cylindrical grinding process, the efficiency of these methods when compared to the conventional method was evaluated, verifying the improvements in the final results. The tests were performed with the steel quenched and tempered ABNT 52100. The tool used was the grinding wheel of aluminum oxide with vitrified binder, which presents high hardness, but low fiability; which is suitable for cylindrical grinding of steels and alloys. The following output variables of the grinding process were analyzed and evaluated: roughness, roundess, diametrical wear of the grinding wheel, cutting power, acustic emission, microstructure and microhardness. The obtained results show that the smaller diametrical wear of the grinding wheel occurred in the application of the conventional method of lubrification-cooling, and...
