Práticas de informação e leitura: mediação e apropriação da informação nas cartas de leitores de um jornal popular do interior de São Paulo

Resumo: The present study is intended for approaching the readers as subject in their practice of information and reading BOM DIA, a popular newspaper launched in 2005 in the inland São Paulo city of Bauru. In Brazil, in the first decade of the 21st century, there was an increasing of 24.93% in newspaper sales, especially popular publications. In this manner, this paper proposes a study on the reader and their practice of information and everyday reading. It was gathered data on reading, in particular as for reading habits in Brazil and worldwide, as well as the constitution of the press itself. The main purpose was to know the reader subject when reading a popular newspaper in some interposition in which meaning effects are produced from the appropriation of information, while the specific purposes involve analyzing the practices of reading and information in the so-called Information Society, inserted in a social, political, and economical context, which allows access, circulation and use of means of reading. We investigated the image (position) the current society produces on readers and their reading habits, explained about the specificities of the newspaper as mean of information and reading and its insertion in history and society, discussed approaches about the reader by an empirical and theoretical point of view in order to analyze the practice of reading a specific newspaper, verified the reader image in the BOM DIA newspaper, and investigated how readers constitute their reading practice and what they consider relevant, besides the position they must occupy to be the reader subject of that newspaper.
