Resumo: One of the tasks and challenges of the pharmacist as a health professional, is to be an educator. When acting in the public sector, which has direct contact with system users, mainly aimed at the correct and rational use of medicines, going back to what is expected from a policy of health promotion, as recommended by the Ottawa Charter of 1986. Know is that the abuse of drugs is increasingly part of the Western culture where the prevailing malaise or any kind of suffering, then transformed into illness, should be terminated at any price with drug use. The issue of medicalization in contemporary Western society, while a biopolitical device has weakened the human being into what you can be more powerful, ie, the relationship with others and with yourself, what Foucault calls self-care and can be explained as a particular and vehemently attention to the body. During the execution of this work meetings with a group of users of a municipal pharmacy Piracicaba were performed in order to understand how they perceive and understand patients and what they do to feel better, with the intention of the authors to contextualize support to my reflections. Therefore, I intend to defend in this work, the importance of the pharmacist's role as an educator since his area of expertise is extensive in the field of health promotion and their specific knowledge in the area will provide a basis for social action directed to instruct and guide users drugs so as to become able to take responsibility for their own health modifying ways of living and thus promote their own health and conditions for the development of a healthy society
