Resumo: Low performance of the Brazilian livestock is duo to the production seasonality of tropical forage plants. Irrigation can provide higher yield and stabilized productivity, since it can meet the water demand during the dry season. The objective of this study was to evaluate: a) dry matter yield and forage quality of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu, as a function of water depths during the fall and winter period, and b) soil moisture and air temperature to determine its effects on forage yield. The experiment was conducted in FCAV - UNESP, Jaboticabal, SP. A line source sprinkler system was used to establish irrigation treatments with five depths, corresponding to fractions of reference evapotranspiration (L1 = 0.18, L2 = 0.52, 1.00 = L3; L4 and L5 = 1.45 = 1.67) in two seasons, fall and winter. The forage yield was higher in the fall and the yield response to water depths was adjusted by a quadratic function, reaching maximum yields with depths of 267 and 269 mm for fall and winter, respectively. High nutritional value of the forage was obtained during the experimental period, with increases in crude protein with increment in water depth only in the fall. Water application did not affect the neutral detergent fiber content of the forage
