Resumo: The dissertation entitled Early reading and literacy: extension of didactic knowledge through on-line continuing education is linked to the research line Practices and Formative Processes in Education, the Graduate Program in Education, the Faculty of Science and Technology of Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (FCT / UNESP). The history of early reading and literacy in Brazil has gone a long way to the present day. It is not today that the teaching and learning of written language has been a challenge. The external evaluations have evidenced a poor performance of the Brazilian students with respect to learning and mastery of reading and writing. There is a great deal of research related to teaching practices in the teaching and learning of written language. Faced with this, the research problem emerges: What are the contributions and challenges of an on-line continuing education course to expand the didactic knowledge of teachers from the initial years of early reading and literacy work? The main objective of this study is to analyze the contributions and challenges of an on-line continuing education course to increase the didactic knowledge of teachers from the initial years of elementary education in early reading and literacy work. The present study is of a qualitative nature, of the type research and intervention with nuances of the constructive-collaborative model, developed through a course of continuous training of teachers, in the distance modality. The training course was developed by three researchers from different areas.
