Resumo: | Estrogen deficiency is a systemic condition that is frequently encountered by dental surgeons in the clinic and appears during menopause and after ovariectomy. This condition can lead to the development of osteopenia and osteoporosis affecting the maxillary bones by promoting bone loss of the alveolar process causing an imbalance between the processes of bone formation and resorption. Considering the shortage of literature in the study of dento-alveolar trauma in individuals with estrogen deficiency and individuals undergoing estrogen replacement therapy (E2), the aim of this study is to analyze the repair process in immediate dental replanting after ovariectomy and estrogen replacement therapy with 17-β estradiol by means of histomorphometric and immunohistochemistry analysis. Sixty female rats with regular estrous cycle were selected for the experimental study. The animals were either ovariectomized (OVX) or sham-operated and divided into three groups: Sham, OVX and OVX/E2. Pellets with corn oil (sham and OVX groups) and 17-β estradiol (OVX/E2 group) were subcutaneously implanted on the back of the animals eight days after either OVX or Sham surgery. Estrogen replacement therapy was maintained for 60 days. At the 1st (60 days group) and 45th days (15 days group) post pellets implantation, the animals were subjected to the right upper incisor extraction and immediate tooth replantation. Animals were sacrificed by perfusion at 60th day of estrogen replacement therapy. Prior to sacrifice, blood samples were collected in order to measure plasma concentration of estrogen. Plasma estradiol level was high in OVX / E2 group, low in OVX and floating in the Sham group according to the different phases of the estrous cycle at the time of collection. Periodontal ligament was inserted into both the cementum and bone tissue in the three groups at 15th post-operative day... |
