Supramolecular polymers are based on monomeric units joined by directional and reversible secondary interactions. The interest in this type of polymer has increased in recent decades due to the huge combination of chemical and mechanical properties that these materials present. In this work, the combination of meglumine with acid groups of castor oil and ricinoleic acid maleinized was evaluated, and then, studied their ability to form supramolecular polymers. The (2R,3R,4R,5S)-6-(M\methylamino)hexane-1,2,3,4,5-pentol, is a derivative of sorbitol carbohydrate capable of functionalizing acid groups through an acid-base reaction, producing an ion pair held together by electrostatic interaction in aqueous phase. In this work , the interaction of meglumine with ricinoleic acid (AR) and castor oil (OR) maleinized in various proportions, called ARAM1MEG1, ARAM1MEG2, ARAM2MEG1, ARAM2MEG2 and ORAM1MEG1, ORAM1MEG2, ORAM2MEG1 and ORAM2MEG2 with and without addition of water were characterized as thermal, spectroscopic, physicochemical and polarized light microscopy behavior. Visually, the greater the amount of meglumine the greater viscosity was observed. The DSC evaluation of the compounds in water indicated the formation of supramolecular polymers with gel-sol transition around 100 °C in ARAM1MEG1-H2O 50,6, 39,3, 19,6 e 8,9 % and in ARAM1MEG2-H2O 50,2 and 39,8%. Polarized light microscopy showed hexagonal liquid crystal phases, lamellar and / or mixing of these systems in seven samples of castor oil and ricinoleic acid presented twelve samples with these phases. These features pave the way for their potential uses as drug delivery or other applications that use its features supramolecular gel. |
