Resumo: | Soon after the military coup of 1964, the military created the first of a series of information organisms, the Serviço Nacional de Informações (National Information Service), SNI. From it was arranged a true espionage structure known as Comunidade de Informações (Information Community). Between the organisms belonging to this community was the Departamento de Ordem Política e Social (Political and Social Order Department), DEOPS. This specialized political police existed since 1924 and after 1964 began to be used by the military dictatorship to watch Brazilian society. Beyond those recognised by the historiography as classical enemies of the regime, such as the students movement, unions, peasants movement, left wing parties and organizations, the DEOPS also kept under surveillance other non-political groups and even the dictatorship civil allies. According to files produced by the DEOPS and stored on the Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo's State Public Archive), the very same government party, the Aliança Renovadora Nacional (National Renewal Alliance), created in 1966 by the AI-2, had its meetings and members spied. In this sense, the present dissertation studies the interal spionage, that promoted by the dictatorship organisms against its own allies, through files produced by the DEOPS during the ARENA party surveillance |
