Resumo: This is work is a proposal to quantify the machinability of a high strength material for safety parts production in automotive industry. The complexity of machining processes requires development of an evaluation method of machinability that can be done by those who produce the material before the end-user involvement and, mainly due to large number of parameters involved, it's difficult to obtain fast and accurate results. Technological evolution leads to the development of materials with improved mechanical properties and finer microstructures that offer greater resistance to machining. This work aimed to establish tools that simulated a real situation machining grade DIN C45 steel bars. The goal was to evaluate the process parameters used currently and also to establish a benchmark for evaluation in laboratory for future improvements to be incorporated in the steel bar. In this evaluation, it was confirmed that the advance and speed currently used are perfectly adequate. However, another angle output proposed achieved superior results, significantly increasing tool life in several conditions tested
