Resumo: |
The Folia de Reis, a merrymaking which has sacred and profane characteristics, is one of the most popular religious festivities in the state of São Paulo. The study conducted herein approaches this cultural practice developed in the city of Olímpia, São Paulo, by Companhia de Reis Fernandes, founded by Celso Fernandes, that has been participating in the festivities devoted to the Holy Kings for more than 50 years. This research holds between the years 1964-2014.The first date marks the beginning of the activities of this group, time in which revelers were living in the city, but were fully developing the pilgrimage in its rural area; with the spin displacement period, this activity now occurs in the urban area. The variation in this cultural practice reinforces the need to analyze the activities of the group until 2014. Hence, the temporal cut will allow the conception of an analysis about the changes occurred in these demonstrations which may differ from recurrent practices. The objective of the research is therefore understand permanence and changes in practices and cultural representations of the Companhia as a result of social and economic changes that marked the transition of the celebration space, passing through the relations between revelers and devotees. In this effort, annuals of Festival de Folclore de Olímpia were researched and oral history about practices and meanings of this manifestation were collected from members of the Companhia, a survey that is an important source for this research; thus, it opens possibilities also to new interpretations of social realities in this festivity of the Christmas cycle |
