Resumo: Currently Brazil is the largest producer of sugar and ethanol, which comes necessitat ing increasingly large areas of cultivation of cane sugar. The high production of sugarcane industry generates a lot of waste that ends up changing the quality of soil, water and air. This agricultura l activity has as pollutants , beyond the agrochemicals used in crop and by-products of the burning of cane sugar, waste generated from harvest to the production process , such as rape- Cane Sugar ( BCA ) , the vinasse and filter cake ( TF ) , the latter being derived from distilla t ion / fermentation and filtration under vacuum, retained in the sludge clarifiers. Both vinasse as TF has been used as fertilizer agents of soil crop of cane sugar. However , there are still a lot of information about the deleterious effects of these products to exposed biota , at the time of application or long term; necessary for the storage of these products care , and the indicated amount for application in culture . Thus, this study aimed to examine the biodegradability of TF mixed with soil and BCA, through respirometry Bartha test and evaluate the toxic effects of this waste and mixtures in test organisms Eisenia andrei (toxicity test and leakage) and Allium cepa ( cytotoxicity , genotoxicity and mutagenicity ). The results showed that both pure TF as toxic in high concentrations have potential to E.andrei and cytotoxic, mutagenic and genotoxic potential to A.cepa. However, these effects were attenuated after six months of biodegradation demonstrating that this process can be an interesting strategy to detoxify TF and make this able to be used as a reconditioner in agricultural cuture
