Resumo: The present study analyzed the fish diversity in two points of the Municipal Dam of São José do Rio Preto and their feeding. Monthly collections were realized from February of 2002 to January of 2003. In each visit, the temperature and the conductivity of the water were measured and removed samples of water for subsequent analyses, in laboratory, of pH, turbidity, alkalinity and dissolved oxygen. The fish were collected with the aid of seine nets, hand nets and line and hook. The analysis of the stomach content followed Lima-Júnior & Goiteni (2001) and they were still calculated the similarity and the feeding overlap among the diets of the constant species. The physiochemical parameters of the water didn't present great variation among the points. In the total 13.672 specimen belonging to 29 species were captured. The order Characiformes was the predominant in number of species and the order Preciformes in number of individuals. The point 1 presented larger richness of species (25 and 24 spp) and larger diversity (H'=0,961 and 0,586) that the point 2. This, for it's time, presented a larger number of constant species (14 and 16). The fish of the Municipal Dam of São José do Rio Preto fed mainly of autochthonous material and the main alimentary items were Cladocera and fish eggs. The species were contained in alimentary guilds in agreement with the similarity among their diets. Seven equal of species in the point 1 and thirty eight equal of species in the point 2 presented significant values of feeding overlap
