Consumo de flavonoides totais e cítricos de indivíduos com e sem doenças auto-referidas e hábitos de vida para prevenção de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis

Resumo: The most important chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD) are obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. Life habits, with emphasis on healthy eating, are closely involved in the NCD. The consumption of flavonoids is part of a healthy diet, which is one of prevention factors against NCD. The aim of this work was gathering information about the lifestyle for prevention of NCD, identify the main dietary sources of flavonoids consumed by adults interviewed and estimate the intake of total and citrus flavonoids, comparing groups of individuals with and without self-reported diseases .Adults of both gender (n = 122) of a clinical laboratory in São Carlos, SP, asked about socio-demographic, health, weight and height during an interview. Participants were divided into two groups, one group of individuals with self-reported diseases and other without self-reported diseases. The food intake, according to three 24-hour recall and present in the database of flavonoids in foods were used to establish dietary sources of flavonoids consumed by the individuals and estimate the intake of total and citrus flavonoids. Sociodemographic data were associated with disease using Chi-square or Fisher's exact test. The repeated measures model was used to compare the consumption of the groups. Excess weight, low consumption of fruits and vegetables, high intake of sugar, fat and salt, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and a sedentary lifestyle are crucial to the development of NCD. Healthy diets based on daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, protein sources with low fat, low salt intake and sugars and intake of fiber and liquids, spread throughout the day, prevent the NCD.
