Resumo: | The aim of the present study was to compare the life-time and failure mode of all-ceramic restorations (Y-TZP/porcelain) with load application on different contact points, by step stress accelerated life method. Dentin analog (epoxy filled with woven glass fibers) dies simulating a prepared mandibular first molar were obtained and embedded in polyurethane bases. The Y-TZP substructures (SB) were milled in a CAD-CAM system, veneered with a porcelain and cemented onto the dies using a dual resin cement system (Panavia F). The groups were divided according to the occlusal contact areas, based on masticatory function (n = 20): central groove load (CGL), cusp tip load (CTL) and sliding contact (SC). For the groups CGL and CTL, the cyclic load was applied vertically at the preselected points using a ceramic piston obtained in a CAD-CAM machine. For the SC group, the vertical cyclic load (also applied by a ceramic piston) was associated with a lateral displacement of 1 mm at the occlusal ridge of the disto-lingual cusp. The frequency was 2 Hz for all simulations. Different stress profiles, constants and progressives, were used. The fractures were detected with an acoustic device attached to the test. A Weibull distribution (95% of confidence boundary) was used to analyze the data. Fifteen specimens (SP) per group were examined following the fractography principles, and the critical stress at the fracture (σf) was calculated. The m value (Weibull modulus) of CGL (2.1; 1.5 - 3.6) was statistically greater than the m value of SC group (0.7; 0.5 - 1.2).There was no difference on the lifetime of the groups CGL and SC. The probability of failure obtained for a 300 N load and 200,000 cycles was statistically greater for CT (0.63; 0.44 - 0.81) compared to CG (0.23; 0.12 - 0.43). The failure mode of all specimens was chipping of the porcelain. For CTL, failure originated predominantly at the contact.... |
