Resumo: | The aim of this study was to determine the effect of marginal sealing, refurbishing and repair on the longevity of composite resin restorations in posterior teeth by criteria USPHS / Ryge. This clinical trial was longitudinal, tripleblind prospective. Were included 107 composite restorations of a group of 26 patients, of both genders. All patients were recruited in the clinic of Dentistry faculty of the University of Chile in 2003 according to the following inclusion criteria: presenting composite restorations in posterior teeth with defects, showing one or more clinical features classified as Bravo or Charlie according to USPHS / Ryge. According following criteria constituted the groups: 1.-Sealing, 2.-Refurbished 3. Repair, 4. No treatment and 5. Replacement. The restorations were evaluated and classified by USPHS criteria / Ryge by two trained and calibrated examiners (kappa 0.75), longevity of restorations was evaluated before the intervention and after 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 years. Results, in general, the groups showed restorations values acceptable to the ten year follow-up in the repair group, sealed and refurbished, the improvements were immediate and the effect remained se.
