Resumo: The relationship between sport and the media in the twenty-first century is inseparable. In Brazil, self-proclaimed country of football, the population has his love and hate relationship with this sport permeated by the mass communication. In this context, one of the main figures to be broadcasted, analyzed and commented by the media are the football coaches. In a country where is considered to have 190 million of football coaches everyone is always willing to do their analysis about the competence or incompetence of this coaches, based on games and news posted by the sports press. However, many researches argue that the media perform broadcast fragmented and has interpreted social facts, with the aim of increasing the ratings that result in partnerships and greater profits for audience. Beside that, it also points out that many times, in order to entertain, these media is to steal a thorough analysis based on solid arguments to analyze the phenomenon of sports and their agents, among them, the football coach. Alongside this scenario the profession of coaching football still lives a troubled time in which the laws which govern the profession is inconsistent show. Considering that one the important element for a profession to establish in a society is exactly the social recognition given to it, the present study aims to analyze the content of television programs on football coaches, and, from that, infer how theses can reflect social recognition of the profession and the groups who seek legitimacy in the exercise of this function, in Brazil
